Huntswood Pro's Hole by hole guide

Hole 1
Not the easiest tee shot to start your round!!! especially if playing off the white tees. Out of bounds tight on the left and trees on the right, my first tip is to warm up before your round with some practice shots. The ideal tee shot is a fade starting at the left hand bunker finishing on the fairway. Now you have a choice to lay up if not a great drive or make sure you take enough club to carry the new ponds.

Hole 2
Our shortest and easiest Par 3 at Huntswood, however make sure you take enough club to carry the large bunker in front of the green. Make sure you notice where the pin position is as our new tiered extension on the right side of the green makes putting a little more tricky.

Hole 3
A short par 4 which needs an accurate tee shot in between the copse of trees on the left and trees out of bounds on the right. Golfers who slice/fade their tees shots may not feel comfortable over this tee shot. Long Hitters now have a choice to make as our new meandering ditch can catch many long shots. Do you lay up or drive the green ?? the choice is yours.

Hole 4
A short dog leg to the right par 4 which needs a very accurate tee shot where position is vital so that you can hit your next shot onto the green. Out of Bounds on the right is positioned very close to the fairway. Long hitters will need to be careful as the copse on the right and left will capture a loose shot. The ideal tee shot is down the left side finishing short or beside the left hand fairway bunker. Be aware of the slope from right to left when hitting into this small green.

Hole 5
A slight dog leg par 4 from right to left, for the longer hitters be aware of the ditch on the right and left positioned across the fairway level with the trees on the right and left of fairway. Only the most accurate shot will do to roll through the narrow gap. The shot into the green is not an easy one as the fairway and green slopes away from front to the back carrying the ball towards the back of the green.

Hole 6
A slight uphill par 4 which always plays longer than the yardage on the card, the hole doglegs to the left. Try and not be too greedy in cutting the corner on the left as a ditch and out of bounds is close to the fairway. The ideal tee shot is to the right hand side of the fairway; with your shot into the green take enough club to carry the right hand bunker to the narrow green.

Hole 7
A downhill narrow par 4 with Out of Bounds on the right and a ditch on the left, long hitters may run out of fairway if using driver as a small copse of trees cuts into the fairway on the left. A very small protected green with a bunker on the right and a mound on the left, the green runs from front to back, only an accurate shot with the right club will finish on the green.

Hole 8
A tee shot slightly left of centre avoiding the fairway bunker on the right will leave a short iron into the green which slopes from left to right. Our new pond on the left will capture a pulled tee shot left. A good chance to make a birdie!!!

Hole 9
This is one of the longest par 4s at Huntswood which often plays the most difficult on the course. The fairway has a steep slope from left to right. Golfers are tempted to hit their tee shot left but be aware as the out of bounds is close to the fairway on the left side of the hole all the way to the green. The best line into the green is on the left, any shot slightly right will roll into the right hand bunker or down the slope away from the green, a five is not a bad score on this hole.

Hole 10
The new back tee will make this par 4 into a more challenging tee shot over the edge of the pond into a small fairway. Check the pin position as a very long green may require a longer or shorter club to finish close to the flag. A safer shot into the green is on the left avoiding the right hand bunkers and benefitting from a slope which helps your ball onto the green.

Hole 11
An elevated tee position on this very pleasant looking par 4 which has a slight dog leg from left to right, longer hitters may be tempted to cut the corner but trees await on both sides of the fairway. Shorter hitters need to avoid the two fairway bunkers. A slight uphill shot into the green with a deep greenside on the right, the safer side is left of green with a friendly slope to help your ball back onto the green.

Hole 12
The longest and toughest par 3 at Huntswood, nearly 200 yards off the reds and yellows in length. A tight tee shot which ideally needs a draw shape to reach the green in one shot; the new ditch across the fairway will catch shorter tee shots so remember to lay up well short of the ditch for an easy 2nd shot into the green, a bunker is well positioned in front of the green to capture the shorter shot and a greenside bunker on the right. The green is positioned very close to the trees and out of bounds fence on the left.

Hole 13
A par 4 with trees and out of bounds all the way to the green on the right hand side of the hole, the ideal shape off the tee is a slight fade from left to right avoiding the copse of trees on the left. A safer shot is with a club that will not reach the copse. The shot into the green needs to carry the ditch which runs across the fairway 10 yards in front of the well guarded green.

Hole 14
A dog leg to the left par 4 which best suits a slight draw shaped tee shot starting at the tree in the middle of the fairway. Longer hitters are often caught out by being too greedy and ending up out of bounds on the left side of this hole. The ideal shot into the green is slightly left centre in between the two greenside bunkers, the green slopes from left to right.

Hole 15
When playing off the white tees the 15th becomes a very strong par 4 at 448 yards. The ideal tee shot is to the right of the fairway bunker on the left. The fairway slopes slightly downhill towards the green. The ideal line into the green is right of centre missing the bunker on the right.

Hole 16
A very difficult par 3 with a large deep bunker across the fairway in front of the green, even if you can carry your tee shot onto the green it is very hard to hold the green which slopes from left to right. You can choose to lay-up before the bunker which leaves a high chip or pitch onto the green, there is a small gap between the mound and the bunker on the left for those who are tempted to hit the green in one. Spend a bit more time than normal reading your putt as this is the hardest green to hole a putt or even get down in two putts !!

Hole 17
An uphill par 3 which plays longer than the yardage, the white tee at 183 yards turns it into a very strong test. A shot in between the two bunkers with enough club to reach the steep slope up onto the green will leave you a nice putt on the green. A back left pin position will however leave you a very tricky putt to negotiate.

Hole 18
Nearly home!!! A comfortable par 5 in length but lots to catch you out as you finish your round, trees and out of bounds tight on the right the ideal tee shot is right side of fairway, the new pond comes more in to play with shots too far left. Longer hitters will have a choice after a good tee shot to go for the green in two, a good layup aiming down the right side of the fairway will leave you a nice shot into the green, left of the bunker on the right and short of the back bunker will leave you a nice finish to your round.
